Brunei Darussalam is a very small country located in the northwest of Borneo. It is full of little surprises and is arguably the most environmentally pristine country in Asia, with much of it covered by virgin rainforests. Visitors to Bandar Seri Begawan, the capital of Brunei, are treated to some fine architecture and traditional water villages. The crowning glory of the capital is the gold-domed Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque that stands in the middle of a man-made lagoon, providing a good view of the surrounding town and the unique stilt village. The Istana Nurul Iman, the palace of the Sultan, is another popular tourist attraction. It is the world's biggest residential palace and is best seen at night from Taman Persiaran Damuan, which is a park on the river bank along Jalan Tutong.
